SA(SiC / Al), SS(SiC / Si)
MMC have high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion. These values are changeable depending on the metal and the Metal/Ceramics ratio. For example, MMC can prevent stress from high temperature as it has similar thermal expansion values to the materials it is in contact with. Due to high thermal conductivity, MMC are suitable as heat sink base materials.

One of the disadvantages of Ceramics is to chip easily. MMCs have high fracture toughness because they are Metal/Ceramic composite materials. Also, MMC can easily be made in larger sizes and formed/molded in complex shapes.

SA(SiC / Al)
MMC can offer higher vibration damping than other composites materials.
Compared to conventional materials, the half-life of vibration is very short, so MMC are suitable for stop & go parts. Check this high vibration damping in the video below.

To reduce weight and improve rigidity, MMC is used on the moving portions of large machining centers.
The composite material contains 30~40vol% SiC in aluminum alloys.
Has the same weight as cast aluminum and a higher Young's Modulus than cast iron. Consequently, it is suitable for the making of complex shapes and larger sizes and for manufacturing smaller size items.
